While I love every season, spring has a special place in my heart. After the quiet coldness of winter, I love the freshness, new life that is exploding every place I turn!
I hear it in the bird’s song, those juicy notes we haven’t heard since autumn! Green, green grass indicates that the winter is over. Soon, vibrant dandelions will appear and splash the landscape with their color while bees hum from flower to flower, grateful the long winter is over!
Farm animals know spring has arrived and bestow the year with their young. Meanwhile, poultry of the barnyard build their nests, all because of the throbbing heartbeat of spring.
Much like the world, I’ve also had a necessary rest from my duties (namely, raising and putting food by)! Somehow, the quietness of winter rejuvenates my life. As spring settles over the valley, there’s a new energy pumping through my veins!
It is the throbbing heartbeat of spring!
Once again, I’m ready to expose bare feet to garden soil. I’m ready to work with my hands while soaking in the aroma of freshly turned earth. To watch a worm or two wriggle back into a dark, cool place!
Once again I’m ready to embark on the adventure of collecting eggs, setting hens and raising meat animals, to nurture life so that, once the winter storms come, I myself can be nurtured!
The outdoors calls to me, the sunshine beacons. This is my life, the very one I’ve chosen!
Sometimes, I wish I could lose myself in the heartbeat of spring! I wish I never had to sleep or eat, wash dishes or do laundry, prepare food or clean my house. There are days when I wish that I could live in the outdoors all day, so as to not miss one moment of spring’s descent on the land.
After the drudgery of winter, the mud and manure, hauling of water buckets and feed, the losses and unexpected happenings, spring reminds me it’s all been worth it! And it’s in this time that I have to rein myself in, lest I take on far too much!
It’s beautiful, spring time is! And I don’t want to miss any of it!
Today, I hope you make time to enjoy this seasons of new beginnings, to let your senses be filled up by the new life surrounding you. Sit on the lawn. Take a walk. Close your eyes and listen to the birds. Enjoy this unique season and soak it in. She only comes once a year and ought to be enjoyed!
