Living up here in these quiet mountains has given me time to think. Unplugging from the world has been so good. I didn’t know how desperately I needed this season of quietness and rest. I’ve had time to contemplate, to consider and process many a thing that has needed processing.
Did you know in moving to our land and dropping internet, I thought blogging would be put on the back burner? I mentally prepared both you and I for it! You’ll have to imagine my surprise when I discovered the exact opposite was true.
Because I have to plan ahead, I’m far more organized. Because I don’t have internet, I have more free time. In fact, I think I’m more creative when removed from the tangled web of online-ness!
In this season of quiet, I’ve spent some time musing over my blog. I’ve realized something small, but important. Today, I’m going to ask a little favor of you, if you would so kind?
If You Would Be So Kind…
Did you know blogging is a one-sided hobby? Yup, responses are few and far between. I’m delighted whenever I receive questions, comments or when other folks share their knowledge.
Hey, look at that! She actually enjoyed my writing!
Wow! That’s a great point. I need to think about this.
What?! I actually helped someone? This writing thing does have rewards after all!
Interactions with my readers are like sparks of warmth in my day. I love it!
Did you know there’s a commenting section below every article I write? This space was designed so you could leave your thoughts, questions and ideas on the article itself. It’s also set up so I can respond to you right there. And then? Other folks can glean from our interactions!
I think it’s time for us to start using it! It’s very simple and doesn’t require anything special. Let me break it down for you, in simple, easy steps!
Here’s How You Do It
Instead of going back to Facebook or Instagram to leave a comment, go down to the very end of the article. You’ll see a section marked “Leave a Reply.”
To leave your thoughts, simply enter them in the Comment box. Just below that, you’ll find a place where you must leave a name (it doesn’t have to be your real name) and also an Email address.
Let me be clear here: your email address will be kept private.
The only reason I ask for it is because 1). it helps validate you as a person and 2). it’s necessary if you want to be notified when I respond to your comment. I don’t keep your email address and I promise I won’t use it to send you unwanted emails.
If you do want to receive my monthly newsletter, you can sign up for it here!
All clear? Let’s move on!
We need to briefly touch on the Website section. If you have your own blog, feel free to leave your website URL. Otherwise, leave this part blank.
Lastly, if you want to know when I respond to your comment, check the little box by notify me of follow up comments by email. And then, you’ll receive an email, letting you know when I’ve responded. This is optional. You can just leave it blank if you aren’t interested.
Directly underneath all this, you’ll see the title in small font: POST COMMENT. Click it…and I’ll love you forever!
Because then, your comment goes to my blog’s email. There, I read and approve appropriate messages. And if your comment isn’t family friendly? It’s sent to the trash can!
Once I’ve approved and responded to your tip/comment/question, both our comments will be published below the article. And then? Other folks will be able to see, enjoy and learn from your input!
Still concerned? Below the POST COMMENT title, there’s a link that lets you know how your comment data is processed. Click it to learn more.
The Down Side
The down side? Unlike facebook that lets you know the minute I’ve responded, you’ll have to rely on email or check in later.
I know. I know. It takes a few extra seconds and is less convenient.
And if instant gratification is your attitude and love in life, then please! Keep commenting on my social media accounts. But for those of you who are willing to take a few extra seconds, I’d love to see you get in the habit of leaving comments at the end of each article! That way, your comments, questions and thoughts stay with the article itself and other can glean from your thoughts.
And yes, I personally read and respond to every comment that comes my way!
Are You Willing?
I’m not asking you to comment every day, week, or even every month! I’m only asking you to leave a response when you find yourself genuinely encouraged, if you have a real question or a thoughtful perspective to share. Other readers will benefit from your knowledge, your questions and your thoughts. And so do I.
So if you would be so kind…?
